Video Projects

Over the years I've made a bunch of videos for classes, for jobs, and just for fun. This page describes some of this work.

Shaker Heights: The Struggle for Integration
Stuart Math Films Inc.
Documentary - 57 minutes
1998

Shaker Heights alumnus Stuart Math returned home in 1996-97 to create this documentary about the history of racial integration in the city of Shaker Heights, OH. This was the first video project that my friend Susan Murray and I worked on together. Stuart hired us to try to capture the "inside view" of racial tensions in Shaker Heights High School and elsewhere in the district.

I shot footage and provided commentary for this documentary. It's actually pretty easy to identify what portions of the film Susan and I shot. Our sections are the only ones that are shot on Hi8, and that's not too difficult to identify if you know what you're looking for. A quick answer key to know whether Susan or I was behind the camera at the time - If it's shaky as hell, it's Susan... If it's crooked as hell, it's me. I still hadn't totally realized the importance of properly leveling my tripod, and Susan always insisted on shooting without a tripod.

Quiet (working title)
Rapid Transit Motion Picture Productions
Feature Film - 60(?) minutes
(still in production)

This is the second major video project Susan and I worked on together. The crew of about 22 people consisted primarily of people that Susan and I knew from high school, including Hilary Jacqmin and Laura Jacqmin. No one on the crew was older than 20, but our actors ranged from 9 years old to 50+. This project was filmed the summer of 1998, but it was shelved as soon as we all went back to school in the Fall. A rough cut is supposedly complete, but the sound is still a mess. I was Executive Producer and Cameraman on this project. I managed the investment process and tracked expenses for equipment purchasing, etc. I also shot all of the film's footage.
